In this blog post, I will give you some ways that you can make money as a freelance graphic designer, lot’s of the things I’ll talk about I did myself.

Twitter is a good place to start, if you don’t know already you can search phrases such as “need designer” and things of that nature and find tons of tweets. If you’re just starting out and don’t have many clients try and find some quick and easy jobs by searching terms. If they have direct messages open send them a tweet. I wouldn’t recommend replying to every tweet if they don’t have messages open because you’ll look a bit desperate for work.

Websites like 99designs allow designers to compete in contents for both small and large amounts of money. Some are around $50 well others can be $500 or more. Although I never won any contents on this website it left me with some work I could display on my portfolio which is a plus.

Fiverr used to be a great website to make money, the reason I say “used to” is because I had an old buyer charge back orders that were over three months old and this brought me from a level two seller down to a normal seller. Also, many buyers on this website are rude to the designers. Other than that if you throw up some good gigs you can make a decent amount of money on the side.

If you’re a designer trying to get clients and you don’t have a portfolio you’re not going to get many clients. Share your work on Behance and Dribbble if you don’t already. Lots of people hire off Dribbble and Behance and if you have some work on there you could be one of those people. Dribbble used to be an invite-only platform and they’ve since changed that but you still have to be drafted in order for your work to reach more people. I give out invites every month so if you need one I most likely have some!

Digital Products

Make premade graphics and sell them on websites like Creative Market. I used to use Sellfy to sell on but they’ve changed up the entire website and you can no longer search for items which makes it hard for customers to find your products. I love Creative Market beside the fact they take somewhat of a large percentage of your sales and payouts take a month. Or if you have your own website throw your products up on there.
